About the Author
Author S.E. Schlosser has been telling stories since she was a child, when games of "let's pretend" quickly built themselves into full-length stories. A graduate of the Institute of Children's Literature and Rutgers University, she also created and maintains the website AmericanFolklore.net, where she shares a wealth of stories from all 50 states, some dating back to the origins of America.
Artist Paul Hoffman trained in painting and printmaking, with his first extensive illustration work on assignment in Egypt, drawing ancient wall reliefs for the University of Chicago. His work graces books of many genres - children's titles, textbooks, short story collections, natural history volumes, and numerous cookbooks. For Spooky Florida, he employed a scratchboard technique and an active imagination.

Highly entertaining

Alligators, flat sandy land and water help give Florida unique and unforgettable folklore. S. E. Schlosser's book captures some of that uniqueness. The character's Schlosser uses to tell the folklore stories are almost as interesting as the folklore stories themselves. One of my favorites in reading the book is called "The Hermit" a story about a man who has a partially trained alligator and is waiting to get revenge on a pirate who killed his son. "The Cypress Tree" tells about a real event and the storyteller named Hank helps make the story come alive as pictured in the drawing that accompanies the story. "Roses" tells about another real event that occurred at Fort Marion where a cannon fell through the floor of the upper gun deck and the discovery that followed.
There are twenty five stories in all and a ghost called "Old Red Eyes' is worth reading as is "True Love", "Spanish Moss" and "Spook Hill". All the stories are well told and who knows when you visit Islamorada you may get to follow a ghost car early on a misty morning as told in "The Antique Car". The book is well worth reading and owning.

One of the best of the Spooky Series!

Spooky Florida is a very good book! There is a variety of stories that range from the most scariest to the most heartfelt. The majority of the stories are very good, but my ultimate favorites are In The Elevator, Old Red Eyes, Ghost Baby, The Phantom Coach, Tailybone, Little Lucy, Roses, True Love, The Hermit, The Choking Doberman, The Witch's Curse and Initiation. Do buy the book because it has more interesting stories than not and you will enjoy reading them!

Interesting Stories about Florida

I found the stories quite interesting especially since I happen to live in Florida.
I do recommend this book to anyone even remotely curious about ghosts and
hauntings in the retirement state.
