About the Author

Xin Guo is the Coleman Fung Chair Professor of Financial Modeling in the department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research, UC Berkeley. She founded the Berkeley Risk Analysis and Data Analytics Research (RADAR) Lab and holds a courtesy appointment with the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab. Prior to UC Berkeley, she was a Research Staff Member at the IBM T. J. Watson Research Center and an Associate Professor at Cornell University. Her main research interests are stochastic control, stochastic processes and applications. In addition to high frequency trading modeling and analysis, her recent research includes singular controls, impulse controls, non-linear expectations, mean-field games, and filtration enlargement with application to credit risk.

Tze Leung Lai is a Professor of Statistics and, by courtesy, of Health Research and Policy in the School of Medicine and of the Institute for Computational & Mathematical Engineering (ICME) in the School of Engineering at Stanford University. He is Director of the Financial and Risk Modeling Institute, Co-Director of the Biostatistics Core of the Stanford Cancer Institute, and Co-Director of the Center for Innovative Study Design at the Stanford School of Medicine. He has held regular and visiting faculty appointments at Columbia University, UC Berkeley, and Nankai University, and holds advisory positions with the University of Hong Kong, Peking University, and Tsinghua University.

Howard Shek is a senior researcher at Tower Research Capital, where he has built and led the Core Research team with a mandate that covers the wide spectrum of research topics in automated trading. He has over 15 years of quantitative research and trading experience in fixed-income arbitrage, market microstructure, volatility estimation, option pricing, and portfolio theory, and has held senior trading and research positions at Merrill Lynch and J. P. Morgan, focusing on proprietary trading in fixed-income derivatives.

Samuel Po-Shing Wong is CEO and Chief Quant of 5Lattice Securities, a proprietary trading company in Hong Kong that develops quantitative trading algorithms and corresponding risk management methodologies from statistical data analysis and machine learning. He also teaches the course of Algorithmic Trading for Stanford Quantitative Finance Program in Hong Kong and serves as an Honorary Professor of the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science at The University of Hong Kong.

This popular Seminar Study assesses the extraordinary career of Napoleon Bonaparte, the Corsican general who rose to power in the wake of the French Revolution and whose armies were to change the face of mainland Europe. By 1810 Napoleon s empire stretched from the Adriatic to the Baltic and yet, by 1815 he was in exile, imprisoned by the British on St Helena, a rocky outcrop in the middle of the Atlantic. This book provides readers with a succinct introduction to, and overview of, Napoleon s impact on France and Europe. It examines his contribution to the crucial changes in warfare during this period, and considers the reasons for the ultimate defeat of Napoleon s armies and the collapse of his empire.

David Wright begins his study by tracing Napoleon s roots in Corsica and, most importantly, his training at the Ecole Militaire in Paris, one of the elite institutions of the ancien régime. In 1793 Napoleon displayed his military genius by recapturing Toulon for the revolutionary government. As a consequence he was rapidly promoted, and in 1796, at the age of twenty-six, was given command of the Army of Italy. This was the beginning of an astonishing career that was to culminate in the creation of a Napoleonic empire that covered virtually the whole of Europe. David Wright analyses the main stages of this transformation and considers whether Napoleon was merely an unprincipled opportunist or a true devotee of the Revolution.

The book concludes with an investigation of the Napoleonic legend and the historical controversies which surround it. The main text is supported by a chronology of the main events, and a fascinating selection of documents, including Napoleon s private letters to his wife, Josephine, the memoirs of his colleagues, official correspondence and police reports.

D.G.Wright was Reader in History at Huddersfield Polytechnic (now the University of Huddersfield) before his retirement.

Race Music is a wonderful example of music scholarship. Ramsey's work provides a rigourous, fresh, and inciteful look into African American Music. Unlike many music scholars who unsuccessfully negotiate the academic and popualar terrains simultaneously, Ramsey presents an unflinchingly academic book in a way that allows the lay public access into his wonderful world of idas. A must read!!!!

I, personally, find this book as THE reference book in studying the journey of our music through different eras. You cannot find a more comprehensive in-depth study of the music of our soul, thoroughly executed and written, even to the point it literally takes you through the time tunnel and puts you at the very feet of the pioneers of "race music." Dr. Ramsey's book is so well-written, that musicians and music listeners alike can relate to the experiences described in various chapters. He is "on point," hitting controversial subjects regarding race music "head-on!" A must-have in your collection! I've had my copy for over 3 years, and I'm still getting nuggets out of it!!! Gotta get your own copy - can't have mine!!! Good reading!

You Get What You Pay For

I won't even call this a book. It is the first 12 chapters of a book and not even enough character or story development to make me to read the rest let alone buy the rest. There is no resolution of any sort at the end. Usually a series has an ending of one part of a story and you like that story and the characters so much you want to read what happens next to them. I am still seeking justice for those killed in the plane wreck because all this book did was let you know there was a crime which you get in the title and synopsis. So read those two things and you have read this book.

Screaming Cliffhanger :( Yea I hate cliffhangers. I would not recommend this book to anyone. It's only 12 Chapters of a book. I don't really see how it can be drawn out much more the end of this book tells you WHO ordered the hit....I guess book's 2 and 3 could be about knocking off her son and daughter too who know's. I will NOT be buying any of these books to find out. I hate wasting my time on books like this.

One is enough

So far, I'm the only reader who didn't like this book. I didn't realize, my own fault, that it's a three parter. But there was nothing that made me want to read the next two. I found the non-American spelling of some words to be disconcerting and, seriously, who replaces the expression "wild goose chase" with "goose-hunters"?
