This book supports, with empirical data and analysis, important historical and contemporary insights about homeownership. Significant conclusions are that homeownership serves the interests of those who profit from the establishment of the complex world of realtors, builders and bankers more than homeowners themselves; that the promotion of homeownership as building solid citizens has been overplayed in the serve of that complex world; that the promotion of homeownership as a financial investment is recent and problematic; that homeownership has been part of the basis for exclusionary politics; and, finally that crucial determinants of community are residential stability and inclusiveness.

About the Author

Kelly is a licensed clinical psychologist and co-founder of Artisan Clinical Associates in Naperville, IL. In 2012, he discovered writing was the thing he never knew he always wanted to do, so he began the now popular blog, UnTangled, where he writes weekly about the redemption of our personal, relational, and global lives. Kelly is married to another clinical psychologist named Kelly, because they decided to make life even more confusing than it already is. The Kellies—as they are called by friends and family—have three children, and they have a deal with them: they teach the kids how to grow up, and the kids teach them how to grow young.

A moving book from a great writer

Honest. Moving. Vulnerable. Encouraging. This is a great book from a master therapist. It is among the best contemporary books I have read. It is unique. Coming from a therapist, it is deeply personal. Kelly showed me he is not afraid of showing his vulnerabilities when he is convinced it will move others towards growth. This book caused me to become aware of areas of my interior life that I typically try to avoid, but that I need to face again and again in order to become more fully the person I am meant to be. I was brought to tears. To anger. To newfound awareness. I had to put the book down sometimes because I felt raw and exposed. The book felt like equal parts love letter, autobiography, and therapy work for me. I highly encourage you read it cover to cover, however long it takes you. But beware, you may be reading through your tears.

Discover You Are Loveable!

Loveable is not a typical self-help psychology book. In this book, which is equal parts psychology, spirituality and roadmap for change, Kelly Flanagan takes the reader on a journey in which the arc of one's inner life mirrors the literary arc of story.

Reading Loveable is like peeling back the layers of an onion. As you peel each away, another layer lies beneath. Dr. Flanagan begins by outlining his premise - we spend our lives trying to feel worthy because we decide early in our lives that our truest selves are unworthy. We hide our true selves as we try to negotiate life in the world. We hide ourselves because we feel shame, because at some point in our lives, either because we had parents who fell short (often through no fault other than being human) or because we had inadequate caregivers, we decided we were not enough as we were and needed to be more in order to earn love, respect, admiration or whatever it is we seek in life. Searching for worthiness becomes the central struggle in our lives.

Dr. Flanagan suggests there is a way to re-engineer our lives. It requires us to peel back our protective layers, like those onion layers, to get to know our vulnerable cores and start over by being the loving parent to ourselves. This is no easy feat. If it were, we would not need therapists to sit with our pain and us, as we uncover our unworthy selves.

This is why I say Loveable is not an ordinary self-help book. It is a heart-wrenching, painful read, especially if you allow yourself to be vulnerable, make connections, and begin to understand yourself differently. It is also heart-warming and affirming, because along the way the reader discovers the path. Call it what you want - insight, enlightenment, guidance - Kelly Flanagan gently carries the reader on a personal, spiritual or psychological journey. He guides us to lift up our inner child gently, see the good within, and learn to walk through life giving our gifts to others.

Loveable makes it clear - faith and psychology are not mutually exclusive. Dr. Flanagan intertwines Christian concepts with psychoanalytic concepts like false-self/true-self and ego. I found most of the book relatable and helpful in framing the difficult idea that we go through life pretending to be who we aren't to gain love, respect, and friends, to fit into our families and social groups. But we end up cheating everyone, including ourselves, out of the true gifts we can offer. In fact, we hardly recognize those gifts in ourselves until we dig through the layers of our false selves to discover our true selves.

Don't wait to change your life. Do it now. Discover you are Loveable. There is much we end up regretting in life. You won't regret reading this book.

My words can not convey how deeply my heart is touched by the transparency, truth and gift of Kelly's insights and how he conveys them in his writing, allowing the reader to soak in the love, acceptance and grace in his words.

Loveable is a wonderful catalyst for deep conversations and a journey on a beautifully layed out path toward healing and redemption of hurts not yet fully uncovered or understood in a way that Kelly's sharing and vulnerability allows and provides.

To this end, it looks at a number of issue areas in the field of maritime delimitation (baselines, maritime zones, delimitation of maritime zones between neighboring states) and jurisdiction (environmental protection, navigation and fisheries) from a bipolar perspective. It is strongly suggested that the legal regime of the polar oceans will be further elaborated to more effectively deal with existing activities or to accommodate new activities. Everything you never knew or thought about water

I came to The Big Thirst as someone who was already pretty water conscious (some think obsessed), and a definite water conservationist. But, wow, all that I had never thought about water Charles Fishman has contained in this book in a thought provoking, entertaining and instructive way. This is in no diatribe designed to make us feel guilty about our water ignorance (although Fishman does rant on Arlen Specter at one point near the end, and rightfully so), but rather a series of stories crafted to heighten our awareness, in an attempt as the author says "to change our relationship to water".

From Australia to India, down the strip of Las Vegas, around the Gulf Coast of Texas to Vermont and elsewhere Fishman takes the reader on a tour of man's challenges and successes in managing our water usage, distribution systems as well as the effect on mankind, the economy and lastly gets the reader thinking about where the next million or billion gallons is coming from.

This book is a treat for anyone who has stopped for even one minute to wonder where our water really flows from and if someday it might not.

Everything You Need to Know About Water and Why It's So Important

Water, as everyone knows, is the basis of life as we know it. We simply cannot survive without it. That makes water a very valuable resource and one that people have argued and fought over for too many years to recall.

In this book, the author takes us on a journey about the history of water, why it is where it is, why cities have sprung up where they have, how water has been turned into a multibillion dollar business and what is happening in the water world currently. It is almost all encompassing on the subject of water and is fascinating in the process.

One of the first points made by the author is that the water we drink today is the same water that has been on the planet for ions. That water was formed during a period in the earth's creation and the amount has not changed since then. As a result, the water we drink today was, at one time, the toilet water of ancient civilizations and was where dinosaurs drank, bathed and went to the bathroom. While this may be a disturbing thought, it has been that way for ions and provides us with a method for reusing today's water to become tomorrow's water.

Along the journey, the author points out that due to climate change, water that was easily obtainable in the past maybe be moving to newer locations. Cities that were thought to have safe supplies are in the process of going dry. Las Vegas, as one example, is reusing and capturing every possible drop of water since the supply at Lake Mead is dwindling by the day. Another example used by the author is the drought that has overtaken the City of Atlanta and how precarious the supply to that city is. He also discusses why this doesn't have to be.

This is only a small part of the discussion of water the author brings to the table. He goes around the world to explore water issues in other countries and why they have occurred and what can be done to fix the problems.

I highly recommend this book to all. As the water we take for granted becomes harder to supply, we will need to develop new strategies for handling water supply to citizens and corporations. This book is the beginning step in a new way to think about

Collection details Plath's formidable talent.

This book is the most complete collection of Sylvia Plath's poetry assembled in one volume. It is for this reason that it belongs almost as required reading, not just in American english programs, but in secondary schools everywhere. It's value lies in it's progression of a female poet and her journey towards finding her true voice. We see the early poems, methodically and skillfully written, shedding style after style of obvious influences through excercises of observation and perserverance. Through these verses, she explores and develops an intricate mythology; by the end, however, she has not lost us in her private world of symbolism and imagery, but enthralls us, heartbreakingly, through the mastery of her words. These last poems, that made up her final manuscript, are undisputedly some of the most moving and beautifully executed compositions of this past century. It is a wonderful book, one that forever changes the way the reader interprets art and the world around him that inspires it.

Looooooove Sylvia!...

It doesn't matter what you think about Sylvia Plath; her suicides, dependence on Ted Hughes, the relationship she had with her mother, her poems about "Daddy, the very depth of the darkness she held inside. It doesn't matter a damn. What matters is the writing, the beauty of the words, the music in her voice.
"The Collected Poems" won the Pulitzer. Some may disagree with this choice, but what do they know. Sylvia was a genius.
The poems are from 1956-1963...
"Southern Sunrise" 1956
SP uses the imagery of color- lemon,mango, peach, pinapple barked, green crescent of palms, quartz clear, blue drench, red watermelon sun. One can see she was happy when she wrote this poem. (Probably just met Ted)

"Fiesta Melons" 1956
Bright green and thumpable/Laced over With stripes/
Of turtle-dark green/Choose an egg shape/ a world shape/
Bowl one homeward to taste/ in the whitehot noon
I find it interesting how much SP's poems reveal about her state of mind as she wrote them. One can observe the progression of depression, her troubled marriage and lonliness, especially in the later poems 1960-63...
"Tulips" 1961
I am nobody/I have nothing to do with explosions.
I didn't want any flowers/I only wanted/to lie with my hands turned up and be utterly empty.
"The Rival" 1961(About Ted??)
I wake to a mausoleum; you are here/Ticking your fingers on the marble table/looking for cigarettes/Spiteful as a woman, but not so nervous/ And dying to say something unanswerable.
The Moon and the Yew Tree" 1961
Separated from my house by a row of headstones/ I simply cannot see where there is to get to.
"A Birthday Present" 1962 (SP's struggle w/depression)
I would have killed myself gladly that time any possible way/Now there are these veils, shimmering like curtains./
The diaphanous satins of a January window/White as babies' bedding and glittering with dead breath. O ivory!
"Lesbos" 1962 (SP's experimentation w/ lesbianism??)
You say your husband is just no good to you/His Jew Mama guards his sweet sex like a pearl/You have one baby, I have two/I should sit on a rock off Cornwall and comb my hair./ I should wear tiger pants, /I should have an affair/ We should meet in another life,/ we should meet in air/ Me and you.
People are fascinated w/ SP, her confessional poetry, giving us a glimse into her world. We feel as if we know her. And even though she appears strong and nasty at times, we see the sweetness behind it all, the lonliness, and somehow, like Marilyn Monroe, we would have liked to be her friend.
1962-63 were Sylvia's darkest days and it shows in her poetry...
"Sheep in Fog"
The hills step off into whiteness/People or stars/
Regard me sadly,/ I disapoint them.
All morning the / Morning has been blackening.
"Daddy"
If I've killed one man, I've killed two/
The vampire who said he was you/ (ted hughes)
Who drank my blood for a seven years,/ if you want to know/ Daddy you can lie back now./
There's a stake in your fat black heart/ And the villagers never liked you/They are dancing and stamping on you/They always knew it was you/ daddy, you bastard,/ I'm through.
Sylvia Plath is somebody we want to know better, this is why we read her poetry. Although much of it is dark, the music of her voice still crys out with such precision and brilliance that we listen, we learn, and we continue reading the words she left behind.

There is just something about Sylvia Plath

Gosh, I love Sylvia Plath's prose and poetry. I could read and reread some of her poems again and again. This is a great collection of her poems. I keep this book loose on my bookshelf when I feel like getting shivers up my spine before I go to sleep. There are some poems that I can just read and reread over and over again that make me feel... oh, mysterious, anxious, happy, perplexed... and Sylvia Plath is one of the poets who has written multiple poems that give me those feelings. Most people who like poetry are familiar with Mirror or Daddy, but there are other poems that people don't know about. I loved the sonnet "To Time" and the poem "Mystic." It is interesting to read her poems knowing what she was going through... reading the poems that coincide with certain events in her life, like her marriage to Ted Hughes, and poems that she wrote about her attempted suicides. I suggest this collection to anyone who is interested in this woman... and I also recommend that you read The Bell Jar as you read her poems, or maybe a few of her journal entries. Sylvia Plath is one of those poets that writes about herself, and knowing background on her life is crucial in understanding these poems. Well, you can decide for yourself.

Jason Siu was the former West Coast Editor of Modified Magazine. While working with Modified Magazine he wrote and photographed over 200 different articles. He is currently the co-owner and editor-in-chief of the Internet automotive publication, Tunerzine.com. His first project car was a 1999 Honda Civic Si that sported one of the first built LS/VTEC engines ever. He currently owns a 1994 Acura Integra project car that can be seen in Modified Magazine. His previous work experience within the industry includes being employed at Titan Motorsports and Enjuku Racing in Florida. He currently resides in sunny Southern California.

Life saver!

Used this book while I rebuilt my b16 engine. If you have never rebuilt and engine or you have before, this book is excellent! It provides concise instructions with very detailed color pictures. I had no idea what I was doing when I started, but the engine is back together and it runs! Perfect if you like getting your hands dirty and are a DIY type person.

It has made being mindful and able to manifest anything exceptionally easy & a second nature to me

This book travelled with me everywhere I went from the minute I received it until I finished it. (and it still comes with me even after completion- I often lend it out to friends and family) With references and research that'll have you learning new information and seeking out new experiences with every chapter, it is a book you won't soon forget, especially after you start finding synchronicities within your life and the words you've just read. This book leaves you with a whole new perspective on the outside world, and most importantly within yourself. It has made being mindful and able to manifest anything exceptionally easy & a second nature to me.

What a great read!

The Elements is a genuine inspiration and I can't recommend it highly enough. Although I was already familiar with some of the “self-help” concepts presented in the book, the way Ricky lays out his understanding of complex esoteric teachings is truly unique. Coming from the school of hard knocks, Ricky has the life experience to know how one, in a practical way, can begin to improve their quality of life.
